MANCHESTER’S FINEST MIKE JOYCE, TIM BURGESS, JOHN COOPER CLARKE, THE WHIP, I AM KLOOT, THE ANSWERING MACHINE & DUTCH UNCLES SALUTE BUZZCOCKS’ SPIRAL SCRATCH MAKING MUSIC HISTORY IN LONDON, MANCHESTER & GLASGOW
THURSDAY, 27 MAY, BAND ON THE WALL

Jack Daniel’s will make music history in Manchester on Thursday 27 May when Mike Joyce (ex-Smiths drummer), Tim Burgess, ‘Punk Poet Extraordinaire’ John Cooper Clarke, The Whip, I Am Kloot, The Answering Machine and Dutch Uncles will join together for an incredible JD Set that will deliver an unforgettable reworking of the Buzzcocks’ punk pioneering EP ‘Spiral Scratch’. The artists will master their collaborations during a week of intensive studio sessions to create new versions of tracks such as ‘Boredom’, ‘Ever Fallen In Love?’ and ‘What Do I Get?’ These will be unveiled live in spectacular fashion at the JD Set gig, which takes place at Band On The Wall, Manchester. Mike Joyce, since the demise of The Smith’s in 1987, has continuously collaborated with musical heroes on the guitar, playing with Sinead O’Connor, Morrissey and Public Image Limited, to name just a few. Mike admits: “After watching Buzzcocks perform in Manchester, they’re the reason I picked up drum sticks in the first place. No Buzzcocks, there would be no Smiths, simple.” Frontman of The Charlatans, Tim Burgess has also enjoyed phenomenal solo success. In a career spanning almost 20 years, Tim has seen his band achieve three Number 1 UK albums and 22 top 40 singles. Despite such success, Tim finds time to dabble in other ventures and his latest, as yet untitled project, sees him collaborate with Stefan (Klaxons), Josh (Horrors) and Ladyhawke. Finishing touches are currently being added to this album, due for release shortly. John Cooper Clarke a.k.a ‘The bard of Salford’ rose to fame in the ‘70’s as a poet, supporting almost every punk band that visited Manchester including the Sex Pistols, Joy Division, Siouxsie, the Banshees and even the Buzzcocks. No expensive visuals, no new rave outfits and no gimmicks – The Whip describe themselves as simply a band. Crossing that line between electro-rock and Northern rave mayhem, they are perfectly placed to follow in the footsteps of fellow Manchester rebels the Buzzcocks. I Am Kloot are fabled in Manchester for their awesome ability to encapsulate both the epic and the everyday – from chip-shop cheek to elemental grandeur. The Answering Machine spent most of last year touring the world with their youthful indie pop outlook. 2009 was a year of massive achievements and 2010 has the potential to be even better. Dutch Uncles take influence from the likes of Steve Reich, Talking Heads and King Crimson combining off-kilter time signatures, prolific compositions and intelligent hooks, all wrapped up with a stunning and mature pop-sensibility. For the past three years The JD Set has partnered members of musical royalty with hot new names from the underground in gigs up and down the UK. Stand out performances have come from Peter Hook and The Wombats, Hugh Cornwall and The Hours, Don Letts and Little Boots and David Gedge and the chart topping Temper Trap.

Hey, hope you like the new webbage. We’re out supporting The Courteeners at the moment so here’s a little blog about what’s been going on. The tour has been great so far, we played the legendary ‘Blackpool Empress Ballroom’ on friday and it was a memorable show. The crowd were really up for it and we were chuffed that The Courteener’s fans embraced us by going bonkers.

It’s good to be out on the road, we’re working hard on the new material so it’s a nice break from all things studio and we’ve been playing some of the new songs live which are going down really well. It was a busy 24 hours after the show in Blackpool, we djed in Lancaster and Burnley which was a hoot, and did another show in Blackburn with the Courteeners on Saturday. During the soundcheck in Blackburn we met Charley Boorman who was doing a one man show about his travels in the same building. He was such a nice guy, his tour manager was a fan of the band so he gave us a tour of their bikes, proper big beasts they were! We saw Charley again later and he said our bass rumbling from our gig above was over powering his show. You cannot beat the power of bass!l

Anyway, Oxford and Bournemouth were cool  too and we’ll be letting you know how the rest of the tour goes.

Here’s a clip of us closing our set in Blackpool with ‘TRASH’. Enjoy!

Tonight Brixton…

Luv Bruce xo
